Facebook’s downfall: 3 ways It has disappointed users big time

After a series of issues, Facebook has disappointed legions of users. Learn more about how privacy concerns and potential user manipulation have caused serious concern for the platform.

Facebook is in hot water AGAIN for data misuse, but this is just the latest in a long line of ways the social media giant has let users down. Here are three of the biggest ways Facebook has disappointed its users:

  1. Facebook was caught selling user data to Cambridge Analytica.
  2. Facebook has been accused of censorship and bias against conservative viewpoints.
  3. Facebook has been slow to address fake news and Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.

These are just a few examples, but they underscore the fact that Facebook has consistently put its own interests ahead of those of its users. If you're fed up with Facebook's shenanigans, it might be time to consider deleting your account.

Facebook’s privacy scandal

You were probably one of the many people who were outraged when you found out that Facebook had been sharing your data with Cambridge Analytica.

For years, Facebook had been collecting data on its users without their consent, and using it to target them with ads. This was a violation of user trust, and many people felt like Facebook had betrayed them.

1. Changes to the news feed

Facebook's News Feed has always been a controversial topic. Users have always been unhappy with the way it shows them content.

But in 2018, Facebook made some major changes to the News Feed that really upset users. It started to prioritize posts from friends and family over posts from brands and news outlets.

This change caused a lot of content from legitimate news sources to be hidden from users, and it led to a lot of frustration and confusion.

    2. The #deletefacebook movement

In 2018, the delete facebook movement began to gain traction. Users were angry about the way Facebook was handling their data, and they were frustrated with all the changes that were being made to the platform.

So they began to delete their accounts en masse. The movement gained a lot of media attention, and it caused a lot of damage to Facebook's reputation.

How Facebook's algorithm impacts user reach

So how has Facebook managed to disappoint users? By changing its algorithm to favor paid content over organic content, for starters.

What does this mean for you?

      Facebook algorithm works

It means that the posts you see in your newsfeed are no longer a true reflection of what your friends and family are sharing.

Instead, Facebook is now prioritizing posts from brands and businesses that are willing to pay for greater reach. As a result, your friends and family's posts are getting buried and seen by fewer people.

This has led to a decline in user engagement, as people are understandably less likely to share something if it's not going to be seen by their friends.

What's more, recent changes to the algorithm have also led to a decline in the organic reach of videos. This is a huge problem for content creators, who often rely on videos to build an audience and share their message.

It's clear that Facebook has disappointed users with these changes, and it's time for us to start looking for alternative platforms where we can share our content and connect with friends and family.

      Facebook's ads transparency issues

You might have heard that Facebook has been having some transparency issues lately.

      What does that mean, exactly?

      Facebook's Ads Transparency

It means that Facebook has been caught manipulating user data in order to influence elections.

For example, in 2016, Facebook was caught inflating the number of people who saw ads for Hillary Clinton compared to those who saw ads for Donald Trump.

Not only was this unfair to Clinton, but it was also a major breach of trust for Facebook users.

And it's not just the 2016 election that Facebook has been caught meddling in

In the recent Brazilian election, Facebook was caught promoting conservative candidate Jair Bolsonaro while suppressing posts about his leftist opponent Fernando Haddad.

This kind of interference is unacceptable and should not be tolerated!

How is this affecting organic reach?

Now, let's look at how this has affected organic reach.

You may have noticed that your posts on Facebook don't get nearly as much engagement as they used to. Even if you have a large following and post regularly, your content likely isn't reaching as many people.

That's because Facebook has done a lot of behind-the-scenes work to reduce the organic reach of content posted by users.

When businesses post, they don't have to worry about this so much because they can pay to get their content in front of more eyes.

But for regular users like you and me, organic reach has become almost nonexistent.

What's worse is that the only way to get around this is to pay up—which is a huge shame considering how much of us already put so much time and effort into our posts!

Users are now more relying on a Facebook SMM Panel more than the platform itself. However, Meta is working to sideline these types of tools from their network.

      What Facebook has to lose?

Money, by all means! Facebook is scuffling to escape the death spiral as sales are dropping.

      Facebook Has to Lose

Meta’s problems are mounting as competitors like TikTok are growing popular. Since 2019, Meta has been trading at its lowest with no shades of light in its revenue growth.

As a result, Investors wiped a staggering amount of $80bn off the market value of Facebook and Instagram right after Mark Zuckerberg reported that their profits have dropped.

      So what’s next?

Considering Meta to be out of competition or in a similar state as Yahoo was will be exaggerating.

The company has seen a rise of 23% in its shares last week.

As a matter of fact, Meta shares reported its peak point since September 2022, beating top row estimates with $32.17 billion in revenue.

Facebook ad network is undeniably the best alternative to platforms like Google Ads. Users still believe in Facebook ads and are using it for business purposes.

What may happen to the users?

Historically speaking, people are meant to adapt with new technologies and paradigm shifts.

The world was social before Facebook and will remain so even without it.

       Future of Facebook Likes

The ecommerce industry and mid-sized or growing business may face some hiccups while the transformation takes place.

Over the years, the Facebook business manager has made a position in the market due its ability of reaching billions of people around the world.

But on the contrary, Facebook collects a lot of data from its users to barrage them with ads. Let that be relevant or peripheral Facebook does not seem to care.

However, the overall change will not significantly impact the lives of the users. Plenty of alternatives have emerged over the years which are doing great in the market.

As a matter of fact, every user on average is using more than 7 social networks along with Facebook. So people will not find it too difficult to find alternative ways for social networking.

      What alternative platforms are available?

With so many ways Facebook has disappointed its users, you may be asking yourself what other alternative platforms are available?

Fortunately, there are a plethora of options. Twitter, with its shorter posts, allows you to interact with people differently than on Facebook. Other social media networks like Instagram and Snapchat have also become popular in recent years.

For an even more private experience, you can move away from the more mainstream platforms and try online message boards and forums instead.

Here you can initiate conversations on a variety of topics without being subjected to constant ads or privacy concerns.

And for those who simply want to stay updated on current events without relying on the algorithms of large companies, there are myriad news websites and blogs out there for you to explore.

How to navigate Facebook as a business?

If you're looking to navigate Facebook as a business, there are a few things you should know. It's become increasingly difficult to run effective campaigns as its algorithms have changed drastically over the years.

Some of these changes negatively affect businesses who rely on organic growth and engagement with their followers.

In addition, Facebook has also changed the way it charges for ads, making them less accessible to those with small budgets.

It's harder than ever for smaller businesses to cut through the clutter and reach their target audience.

For those reasons, many people are turning away from Facebook and finding other ways to promote their businesses online.

If you have a budget, it may be worth investing in other platforms that can bring better returns on investment.

      Conclusion

So, these are the three main ways Facebook has let its users down. What do you think? Do you agree that Facebook has made some big mistakes?

Do you think that Facebook will be able to redeem itself in the eyes of its users? Or do you think that it's time for people to start looking for a new social media platform?
